Rule #1... not everything "you" like is going to be liked/purchased by others. The items above have been carted to numerous shows, only to end up back on the shelf. You'd think that a giveaway price of $10 a pot would save me the trouble of carting the stuff back home... not so. "Always" prepared for disappointment.
A year ago (2018) I conceived the brilliant idea of glazing in pastels... hearkening back to the days when I was kicking the slats out of my cradle trying to reach a chain of plastic pastel-colored discs... a "melancholy" moment. After investing a sizable sum in pastel glazes, I began glazing a steady stream of vases, bowls, and clangers. It was a marketing disaster. Fortunately, a fellow potter I sell with "knew" about this personal "quest/obsession" before the first item was glazed. "Collectively" the ware looked great on the racks, just as the platelets did on the chain. At the show (Chautauqua Institution) I sold four items and lost my a__ money wise. The light went on when a middle-aged gal looked at a vase and declared "Pink pottery... yuck!" If you take up the craft, don't strain your brain obsessing over your failures... learn and move on (keeping rule #1 in mind) if you plan to sell.
"Serendipity" (the Devotee above) often makes up for "stupidity".
